Behavioral Health

One of the strengths of Cahaba Medical Care is our Integrated Care Model.

Cahaba Medical Care’s Behavioral Health Department and Social Work team work diligently and in tandem with medical providers to help care for patients' mind and body.

Services offered include:

Individual Counseling Services - Cahaba Medical Care offers in-house, one-on-one counseling to address significant behavioral and mental health needs, such as depression, anxiety, grief, and other mental health disorders an individual may be experiencing.

Behavioral Health Consultation - Behavioral health consultants promote well-being through prevention and intervention. Services focus on addressing mental health, improving behaviors, promoting resiliency for the future, and improving overall wellbeing. At Cahaba Medical Care, our Behavioral Health Consultants provide brief, targeted, real-time interventions to address children, adolescents, and adults. Topics covered include depression, anxiety, substance abuse assessments and intervention, parenting skills, stress management, medication compliance, new diagnoses, and so much more.

Group Counseling Services

  • Pain Management Counseling - Many of our patients at Cahaba Medical Care suffer from chronic pain and are currently taking medication, but medication does not seem to be enough. This group combines concepts of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), medication, and exercise to promote better functionality and well-being for our patients.

  • Substance Use Disorder Services - Cahaba Medical Care provides Substance Use Disorder counseling via group counseling, brief interventions, and individual counseling for established patients. Patients identified to suffer with substance abuse or dependence from any drug (cocaine, opioids, marijuana, methamphetamines, etc.) are eligible to participate with a referral from a Cahaba Medical Provider or Counselor. Priority for admission will be given to pregnant intravenous substance users, intravenous substance users, individuals who are pregnant and have substance use disorders, and women with dependent children.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Clinic - Cahaba Medical Care partners with community agencies like UAB Beacon, the Recovery Resource Center, and others to aid individuals currently or recently detoxing from opiates with outpatient treatment. Individuals are provided with both medication treatment and behavioral health services.
